Facebook issued an update to its iPhone application last night, and while it introduces a number of nice new features, it also removes all code related to the iPad version — meaning you can no longer install the official Facebook app for iPad before its release.
Prior to the release of version 3.5, the Facebook app for iPhone included some hidden code for the app’s iPad counterpart. Once this was discovered, hackers dreamt up a number of different ways in which users could install the official Facebook app for iPad using the iPhone release. However, that’s no longer a possibility, because the iPad code just isn’t there anymore.
However, that’s not the only thing to happen with this update; Facebook has also introduced some nice new features:

– Added the ability to share external links from a web view
– Added new design for Profile and Group Walls
– Improved the sharing tool to add privacy controls on posts and match your settings on the web siteImprovements and bug fixes:

– Made it easier to select filters in News Feed
– Fixed a bug with the Notifications bar disappearing
– Fixed a number of Photos bugs
– Improved performance and stability overall
Of course, if you’re interested in installing the Facebook app on your iPad, and you haven’t already done it, steer clear of this version for the time being.
This question we’re asking now is this: Was this simply to prevent users from installing the iPad app prior to its official release, or does this mean the iPad version is nowhere near ready for the App Store?

Great update! Now almost on par with the HTML5 Web app..
Fb for iphone is not ready for prime time since its debut, so that shouldn’t be an issue for them :))! The poor quality of the fb iphone app has pushed me towards g plus.
I’m sure the iPad app is going to be out pretty soon at the f8 event on the 22nd anyway.
Given that FB for iPhone used my iPhone contacts to suggest Friends, I would never trust FB on my iPad where I keep more private data.

indeed. It implies that there was ever actually a useable iPad UI for the Facebook app and Facebook just yanked it out. Taking is away from the folks that have downloaded the app and been using it for weeks.
But there wasn’t. They never actually finished that code, which I admit that I found a bit moronic. But no less so than the gossip magazine overhyped headline that is basically a lie. Right up there with claiming to have photos of the Twilight Twits getting married but when you look at the article inside it’s about the wedding scene in the last movie.
Course CoM has been playing the hyperbolic and basically lying headline game for a while. Pity, since this used to be a great news and tips site. Now it’s a gossip rag with perhaps one legit article a day buried under the 10 hit fodders.
